Necessary slip ups.

James 1:2-3

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

I think that every now and then in life, we all need those necessary slip ups. Those slip ups serve as a speed bump to remind us to slow down (be patient), and stay alert (sober minded and woke) and to stay humble (remembering where our help comes from). No matter how hard we try, we won’t reach perfection until we reach glory. We are going to screw up here or there because we’re human. I’m not saying that we should get comfortable screwing up, I’m just saying things happen to help keep us grounded and to help us grow in the Lord. Paul said in Romans 7:15-17, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.”As long as we’re in this body, there will be a battle between our flesh and our spirit. Jesus said in Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” The disciples wanted to stay up and keep watch as Jesus prayed, but their eyelids said, go night- night. As children of God, we want to always do the right thing and that’s admirable, God love’s that, but He also doesn’t want us to get a “big head” and start to think that our deeds is what gets us into Heaven or our accomplishments is what’s gotten us the success we have. No, it’s by God’s Grace! Ephesians 2:8, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Aren’t you glad? That takes a lot of pressure off of us! We can be ourselves and the Spirit Of God perfects us through the blood of Jesus! It’s not that we’re so great! It’s because God is! He’s not good to us because we’re good, He’s good to us because He’s good! So when you slip up, don’t beat yourself up! Dust yourself off and try again, but not your way, God’s way. Find the lesson in the fall and continue to allow God to perform His work in you. Proverbs 24:16, “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.”
