Persist

There comes a time in all of our lives when we can no longer sit around twiddling our thumbs in despair; upset, broken-hearted and depressed about the cards life has dealt us. It’s like an alarm goes off that lets us know it’s time to do something. That alarm is sounding off the word persist! There are numerous scriptural references in the Bible that tells us that persistence pays off. Sometimes the key isn’t waiting on your blessing, it’s going after it, however it’s all in God’s timing!

Think about the woman with the issue of blood. She had been to any and everyone she thought could help her condition, but no doctor, medicine or other remedies worked. She knew who could help her though, Jesus. It was time! She decided to go get her blessing.

She thought, if she could just touch the hem of Jesus garment, she’d be made whole.

Imagine her pressing through the crowd, making her way to Jesus. She was determined to get her healing! The fact that so many people were in front of her wasn’t an issue. She wasn’t distracted by what the people behind her were saying, and she didn’t care about people pushing against her on both sides.

She continued to press through! She didn’t care that everyone was touching Jesus, she didn’t need to touch him, only the hem of his garment! The crowd around Jesus was probably so bad, that she had to crawl her way to him! Nevertheless, she was persistent.

Her faith stopped Jesus in his tracks!

He said, “Who touched me?” His disciples were like, everybody is touching you or trying to touch you! Jesus was like no, this was a different touch, power left me! I know I’m paraphrasing but, I’m trying to get you to understand. We live in a world where everyone needs Jesus, but it’s not enough to know you need him if you don’t have a faith to pursue Him!

Don’t get waiting on God confused with doing nothing. When we wait on God, we’re always proactively waiting! Whether it’s studying His Word to develop your relationship with Him, or volunteering at a homeless shelter and trusting God that one day you’ll be able to open your own shelter for the homeless! Waiting on God is about starting where you are, with what you have! Go in faith and be persistent!

You have to push through the struggles, difficulties, distractions, disappointments and anything else that’s been keeping you from receiving what God has for you! You must believe what the scripture say in Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Faith is an action Word, and so is seek! These are two key words in Hebrews 11:6. Today I challenge you to not only believe God will, but I also challenge you to go get your blessing from God, whatever it is! If this means job searching until you get the job you’re believing God for, then go in faith and do not settle for less!

If this means believing that God will heal you like the woman with the issue of blood, then believe and don’t doubt. Pay attention to what God is telling you! If He is telling you to fast and pray, then do it! If He’s telling you to apply for a job you don’t qualify for, then trust Him! If He is telling you to get the surgery you can’t pay for, then TRUST HIS WILL OVER HOW YOU FEEL!

God can do anything, and He’s especially moved by our faith!

Luke 8:43-48 English Standard Version (ESV)

43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased. 45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”
